The Woman Behind the Camera
In 1929, when she was only in her twenties, Christine L. Reid climbed her first major mountain. And she didn't stop.
Reid wanted to encourage women to join the sport she so loved, and she even once led a "manless party" up Mount Confederation in Canada. But adventure wasn't her only calling––Christine Reid was also an admirer of film and amateur filmmaker. Her mountain climbing led to skiing, which lead to her writing and directing a film starring ski instructor Benno Rybizka.
Reid’s films are now part of a project called The Woman Behind the Camera. The project digitizes home movies and amateur films made by women in the 20th century. Read the full story about Christine L. Reid on Atlas Obscura.
