Netflix not scary enough? Maybe it’s time for Shudder.

Netflix is great. It’s hard to remember a time when I couldn’t just sit down and have thousands of movies and TV shows at my fingertips. I can just sit for hours choosing something to watch and feel the shame when every so often Netflix asks me if I am still watching (yes, I am). But as good as Netflix is, for a horror fan like me it can sometimes lack in the choice and variety I crave to satisfy my horror needs—and this is where Shudder steps forward.

Started in the United States in 2015, Shudder opened up into Canada, the United Kingdom, and Ireland in October 2016 and boasts an impressive 500 titles for your money. Featuring classic titles such as Hellraiser, Phantasm, and Re-Animator, it also includes some excellent exclusives such as Rob Zombie’s 31, Beyond the Gates, and The Void.

One of my personal favourites is The Core, a show that takes you behind the scenes of horror films with interviews, practical effects tutorials, and film reviews that really go beyond what you can usually find for the horror genre. The series section also boasts impressive shows such as Wolf Creek, Darknet, Hammer House of Horror and also the podcasts Congeria, Inside the Exorcist, and Darkest Night. They also have a 24/7 free streaming channel you can access called Shudder TV, which you don’t even need a subscription to enjoy!

Now the question on everyone’s lips will be “How much does this cost?” and you will be pleasantly surprised that it only costs $4.99 per month, or $47.88 for the year (equivalent to $3.99 a month) in the United States. Here in Merry Old England it is £4.99 per month, or £49.99 for the year—although if you have a quick Google you will see some codes ranging from 30-60 days free and even up to 30% off a yearly subscription which adds to the 7 days you get for just signing up.

If you are a horror fan and want more films and TV at your fingertips then Shudder is well worth the money, and will keep you satisfied on those dark nights when you want to be scared.

Head to Shudder to check it out, and prepare to be scared and impressed.
